What can you do today, for tomorrow?
I recently started a new job at G Adventures, an adventure travel company. What drew me to the job was the travel aspect; helping people conquer their travel fears has become one of my favourite things to do, so naturally I was pumped about that. But when I got hired and got to really know the company, my heart soared. I honestly think I’ve hit the jackpot.
G Adventures isn’t just about throwing people on a bus and taking them from tourist attraction to tourist attraction…they’re all about transcending travel. Sustainable tourism. Building local communities. Helping change the planet. Hippie dippie lovey ‘we can make a difference’ stuff that I never found at my previous job, save for the annual Christmas toy drive. I mean, look, I’m sure it sounds like I’ve been brainwashed a-la a Lululemon style boot camp, but it’s true. These things really *do* drive the company and the people working there. It’s absolutely astonishing.
SO! We recently launched this thing called the G Project.
This ambitious project is setting out to change the world, with the Average Joe at the centre of it. We’ve all had ideas about how we could make a difference, from big scale projects to tiny day-by-day happinesses, and the G Project wants to make those dreams a reality.
Basically, you submit your idea on how you can make the world a better place. It can be big or small, local or global (I’m not good at thinking on a global scale, but I definitely have ideas on how to change my community or help a certain small group of people!). You throw it on the site and get people to vote for it. There are a few categories, and the top 16 from each category will be reviewed by various amazing big cheeses.
AND THEN JANE GOODALL AND FUCKING SURVIVORMAN (and others) WILL SEE THEM AND PICK FOUR FINALISTS AND THEN YOU GET TO HANG OUT IN COSTA RICA WITH FUCKING JANE GOODALL AND SURVIVORMAN. And the winner gets $25,000 to get their project off the ground.
YOU COULD BE DRINKING YOUR OWN PEE WITH SURVIVORMAN ONE MINUTE AND THEN CHANGING THE WORLD THE NEXT.
So hey. I know this post sounds like I’m promoting my company, and I guess I am. But really, this project is super fantastic, and I want to spread the word. I have so many friends who work SO hard to change their communities, and I know they have friends who change their communities…I just want everyone to know about it because those people deserve some madd ca$h to help them make a madd difference.
Take a look, spread the word, and submit your idea. And don’t let any thoughts of “well, my idea isn’t as good as someone else’s idea, so I’m just not gonna submit”, because hey, even just putting good vibes out there in the world can spark an idea and connection. You could meet someone else who wants to help you get that project off the ground, and you could me making a difference in no time.
Plus, if you win, HELLO free trip to Costa Rica!
Questions? Get at me! Submit your idea, let me know and I’ll have a looksie. I can’t wait to see how we can change the world!
